With Discrete Flow of Light, the third and final work of a triptych based on light-sound synchresis, the artist undertakes a reflection on co-creation with artificial intelligence; shared decision-making power, machine-induced extra-musical referents, and real-time feedback are explored. Alongside the use of an intelligent computational process, Côté adopts the concept of harmonic series, thereby enabling the emergence of new musical and conceptual possibilities, in keeping with the ideas of flow, momentary eruption, and continuity.

Serving as a prologue to the present project, Discrete Stream of Light (2022) is a short-duration sound work inspired by the sparkling luminosity entering the artist's studio at dusk, initiated as a spontaneous creative exercise following the undertaking of daily minimalist studies. The premise of the initial project — a direct and intimate window into the artist's creative world, through place and light — thus acts as an emotive vector for the proposed project. The direct similarity of the names, differing by a single word, further amplifies this intention.

This perceptual sensitivity to light is moreover rooted in the artist through a deeply personal physical sensitivity, linked to a physical condition; as a child, he could not look at the sun without fainting, and a filter (glasses) became a daily necessity in order to appreciate the outdoors. The proposed project — indeed the entire creative cycle — thus bears witness to a unique and formative sensory relationship.

Avec Discrete Flow of Light, troisième et dernière œuvre d’un triptyque basé sur la synchrèse lumière-son, l’artiste entame une réflexion sur la co-création avec l’intelligence artificielle ; pouvoir décisionnel partagé, référents extra-musicaux induits par la machine, et rétroactions en temps réelle sont explorés. Conjointement à l’utilisation d’un processus informatique intelligent, Côté adopte le concept de séries harmoniques permettant ainsi l’émergence de nouveaux possibles musicaux et conceptuels, en phase avec l’idée de flux, d’éruption momentanée, et de continuité.

Faisant office de prologue du présent projet, Discrete Stream of Light (2022) est une œuvre sonore de courte durée inspirée par la luminosité étincelante entrant dans le studio de l’artiste au crépuscule, initiée comme exercice de création spontanée suite à la mise en chantier d’études minimalistes quotidiennes. La prémisse du projet initial, fenêtre directe et intime sur le monde de création de l’artiste - par le lieu, la luminosité -, agit donc un vecteur émotif du projet proposé. La similitude directe des noms, à la différence d’un mot, amplifie d’ailleurs cette intention.

Cette sensibilité perceptive à la lumière est par ailleurs ancrée chez l’artiste par une sensibilité physique bien personnelle, liée à une condition physique ; jeune, il ne pouvait regarder le soleil sans s’évanouir, un filtre (lunettes) devenait donc quotidiennement nécessaire afin d’apprécier l’extérieur. Le projet proposé – voir le cycle complet de création – témoigne donc d’un rapport sensoriel unique et marquant.
